Preach the Word

1 ^aI solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to ^bjudge the living and the dead, and by His ^cappearing and His kingdom: 2 preach ^dthe word; be ready ^{▼▼I.e., whether it is convenient or not}in season and out of season; ^fcorrect, rebuke, and ^{▼▼Or encourage}exhort, with ^{▼▼Lit all}great ⁱpatience and instruction. 3 For ^jthe time will come when they will not tolerate ^ksound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, 4 and they ^lwill turn their ears away from the truth and ^mwill turn aside to myths. 5 But as for you, ⁿuse self-restraint in all things, ^oendure hardship, do the work of an ^pevangelist, fulfill your ^qministry.

6 For I am already being ^rpoured out as a drink offering, and the time of ^smy departure has come. 7 ^tI have fought the good fight, I have finished ^uthe course, I have kept ^vthe faith; 8 in the future there ^wis reserved for me ^xthe crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on ^ythat day; and not only to me, but also to ^zall who have loved His ^aaappearing.

9 ^abMake every effort to come to me soon; 10 for ^acDemas, having loved ^adthis present ^{▼▼Or age}world, has deserted me and gone to ^afThessalonica; Crescens has gone to ^{▼▼One early ms Gaul
,} ^ahGalatia, ^aiTitus to Dalmatia. 11 ^ajOnly ^akLuke is with me. Take along ^alMark and bring him with you, ^amfor he is useful to me for service. 12 But I have sent ^anTychicus to ^aoEphesus. 13 When you come, bring the overcoat which I left at ^apTroas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments. 14 ^aqAlexander the coppersmith did me great harm; ^arthe Lord will repay him according to his deeds. 15 Be on guard against him yourself too, for he vigorously opposed our ^{▼▼Lit words}teaching.

16 At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me; ^atmay it not be counted against them. 17 But the Lord stood with me and ^austrengthened me, so that through me ^avthe proclamation might ^{▼▼Or be fulfilled}be ^axfully accomplished, and that all ^aythe Gentiles might hear; and I was ^azrescued out of ^bathe lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will ^{▼▼Or save me for

19 Greet Prisca and ^bgAquila, and ^bhthe household of Onesiphorus. 20 ^biErastus remained at ^bjCorinth, but I left ^bkTrophimus sick at ^blMiletus. 21 ^bmMake every effort to come before ^bnwinter. Eubulus greets you, also Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.
